Dover Sea Wall

Working as part of an award winning team, Boxing day 2016 RPS were asked to assist BCM with emergency works following the sea wall collapse at Dover. The original Victorian railway was supported on trestles, which were buried in place when the last sea wall was built. The inclement weather with addition to the trestles rotting contributed to the sea wall demise.


RPS provide the electrical design for both the ETE, HV (oil filled cable) and pilot cable design, which revised multiple times as the project scope evolved and changed to suit to adapt to site conditions. RPS also undertook the CRE electrical construction support activities and dealt direct with Network Rail project team, Network rail Maintainer, Canterbury ECRO and installation contractor.


A project of this size would take two years to plan and deliver. Dover Sea Wall was completed in nine months at a total cost of £39.8m, it consisted of a 235m long viaduct on 134 concrete columns.
